Purpose
This regulation prescribes responsibilities, policies, and procedures for the direction, management, and control of the Army Military Working Dog (MWD) Program. It explains how MWD teams are used in garrison and combat support missions including area security; movement and mobility support operations; law and order; and force protection, including drug, human, landmine, firearm, ammunition, and explosive detection. This regulation is to be used with the Department of Defense Directive (DODD) 5200.31E, Air Force Instruction (AFI) 31-126/ Army Regulation (AR) 700-81/ Naval Operations Instruction (OPNAVINST) 5585.2C/ Marine Corps Order (MCO) 5585.6, and the Army Techniques Publication (ATP) 3-39.34.
