Page Count: 18
scope:

This module applies to the provision of mining hazard information to inform:

1) Network Rail and Third Party construction projects (including enhancements, replacements, renewals, emergency and temporary works);

2) land purchase, sale or the granting of other land rights by Network Rail.

This module applies to Network Rail and non-Network Rail personnel involved in the sponsoring, remitting, design, design approval and taking into use of railway infrastructure.

Purpose

This module manages the risks arising from abandoned and working mines in design and construction. It mitigates the risk of construction works being undertaken without consideration of their vulnerability to and potential impact on mining hazards. The main risk being the collapse of mineworkings resulting in ground movement (such as subsidence) which could impact on the safety or performance of the railway during the design life of the development.

This process is designed to help achieve compliance with The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
