scope:
This technical specification applies to all LU and TfL Engineering staff who have responsibilities for the management and development of ultrasonic testing and Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) equipment. The technical specification also applies to all external parties that supply ultrasonic testing and RCF equipment for use on LU track assets.
This specification applies to the following equipment options for Ultrasonic Rail Flaw Detection (URFD):
a) Pedestrian operated single rail testing
b) Pedestrian operated dual rail testing
c) Dual rail testing using a motorised trolley
This specification applies to the following equipment options for RCF measurement:
d) Pedestrian operated single rail testing (for rolling contact fatigue).
Purpose
The purpose of this specification is to define the performance and other technical requirements of ultrasonic rail flaw detection equipment and rolling contact fatigue measurement equipment for use on the London Underground (LU) network.
