scope:
This specification covers three sizes and capabilities of high-end programmable logic controllers (PLC) (see 6.4.10) requiring cybersecurity measures for naval shipboard use. The configuration range includes rack-mounted, rack-less, and module-type PLCs. The terms "PLC" and "programmable controller" are used interchangeably throughout this specification.
Classification.
PLCs are of the following types:
a. Compact PLC: An integrated, compact unit that is mounted or placed beside the equipment to be controlled. The processor, power supply, and input/output (I/O) points are integrated within a single enclosure with I/O expansion capability.
b. Modular PLC: A programmable controller built with several components that are connected into a common rack or bus containing a processor, I/O modules (see 6.4.7), and power supply.
(1) Small Modular PLC: A unit that is mounted or placed beside the equipment to be controlled with the capability to control a single system.
(2) Large Modular PLC: A unit designed to control multiple independent systems.
intended Use:
The programmable controllers covered by this specification are intended for use on naval surface ships and submarines. The controllers procured to this specification are form, fit, and function... View More
