Purpose:

This issuance updates the responsibilities and functions, relationships, and authorities of the USD(P) and authorizes the USD(P), as a Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) reporting directly to the Secretary of Defense, to establish DoD policy in DoD issuances within the responsibilities and functions and authorities assigned in this issuance, and to reissue chartering DoD Directives (DoDDs) for OSD officials who were appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate and who are under the authority, direction, and control of the USD(P), in accordance with DoD Instruction (DoDI) 5025.01, pursuant to the authority vested in the Secretary of Defense by Sections 113 and 134 of Title 10, United States Code (U.S.C.).
