PURPOSE.
This directive reissues DoD Directive (DoDD) 5106.04 (Reference (a)) to update established policy and the responsibilities and functions for Defense inspectors general (IGs), pursuant to the authority vested in the Secretary of Defense by section 113 of Title 10, United States Code (U.S.C.) (Reference (b)), and in accordance with DoDD 5106.01 and the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, Title 5, U.S.C., Appendix (References (c) and (d)).
