scope:
Scope.
This specification covers the Arc Fault Protection System (AFPS) that detects an arc fault in electrical equipment such as switchboards, load centers, motor drives, and produces a signal to automatically trip upstream circuit breakers to isolate the affected section of the enclosure. High resistance arcing faults can cause damage to power distribution systems since the inherent operational characteristics of Navy circuit breakers may not isolate the affected enclosures for several seconds due to relatively low current levels associated with this type of arcing fault. The AFPS detects high impedance arcs in series with system loads and phase-to-phase arcs and has the capability to command a breaker trip signal within the required time period.
intended Use:
The AFPS is intended to process sensor data, determine if an arc fault or thermal event is occurring, send out signals to isolate power, and test the system components. Due to the unique operating... View More
