The requirements of this Specification shall apply to all manufactured level crossing surface systems installed on new public vehicular level crossings, or for the replacement of the entire level crossing surface system on an existing public vehicular level crossing.

This Specification applies to the maintenance or partial replacement of manufactured public vehicular level crossing surface systems only where the existing level crossing surface system consists of components granted type approval against this specification.

Level crossing surface systems complying with the requirements of this specification may also be installed on private vehicular, footpath or bridleway crossings.

PURPOSE

This Specification provides the performance specification for manufactured level crossing surface systems to be installed on Railtrack controlled infrastructure to ensure that such systems are fit for purpose and have an adequate life expectancy. The Specification requires such systems to be type approved and details the procedures to be followed by manufacturers of level crossing surface systems seeking type approval by Railtrack of their level crossing surface system.
