Scope.
This detail specification provides guidance on the procedures and processes for (LHE) Low Hydrogen Embrittling Zinc-nickel (Zn-Ni) plating applied by electro-deposition for the repair of existing parts or the procurement of new high strength steel substrates (180,000 psi or higher ultimate strength). Subsequent heat treating techniques needed to ensure low embrittlement of steel are also described. The process was developed specifically for high strength steel. However, it can also be used on lower strength steel alloys, corrosion resistant steel alloys, copper-based alloys, or other alloys as directed by technical data.
intended Use:
This MIL-DTL was developed as an alternative process to use in place of low embrittling cadmium plating. It covers the processes and materials required for the electro-deposition of Low Hydrogen... View More
