PURPOSE
This document
• specifies the minimum requirements for the design, supply, installation, inspection and maintenance of Longitudinal Timbers Systems on Railtrack infrastructure;
• defines procedures to be used for the management of the interface between Longitudinal Timbers systems with supporting structures and the rails, baseplates, chairs and where applicable, sleepers.
Use of this Specification will ensure compliance with the requirements of Railway Group Standard GC/RT5021 Track System Requirements in respect of Longitudinal Timbers.
This document does not provide the specification for the design, inspection or maintenance of supporting structures.
Guidance on the installation, inspection and maintenance of Longitudinal Timbers is given in Railtrack Company Code of Practice RT/CE/C/003 Installation and Maintenance of Longitudinal Timbers.
