Organization: ASTM
Publication Date: 1 November 2020
Status: active
Page Count: 8
ICS Code (Lubricants, industrial oils and related products): 75.100
scope:

This test method covers the prediction of the borderline pumping temperature (BPT) of engine oils through the use of a 16 h cooling cycle over the temperature range from 0 °C to −40 °C. The precision is stated for temperatures from -34 °C to -15 °C.

Applicability to petroleum products other than engine oils has not been determined.

The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

Exception-This test method uses the SI based unit of milliPascal second (mPa·s) for viscosity, which is equivalent to centipoise (cP).

This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
