This SAE Standard defines the general requirements and provides a system for the control of quality for conformal coatings suitable for application to printed circuit assemblies.

The material covered by this Standard is a thin transparent continuous contour coating applied to printed circuit assemblies to provide an electrical insulating protective barrier against deleterious environmental conditions. The thickness of the cured coating is within the range 0.010 to 0.075 mm, except for deposited from the vapor phase coatings which are within the range 0.005 to 0.020 mm.

This Standard does not include tests for special applications which will require extended testing for Qualification Approval, e.g., altitudes in excess of 20000 m and extended temperature limits.
