BEST ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PRACTICES FOR SUSTAINABILITY OF MILITARY TRAINING AREAS

active, Most Current
Organization: NATO
Publication Date: 7 January 2020
Status: active
Page Count: 96
scope:

Integrated management establishes a framework for decision-making and management of military training areas. It integrates elements of operational, environmental, master planning and other programs that identify and assess land use alternatives. Integrated management also supports natural and cultural resources management and stewardship of land assets, while sustaining those assets to support training, testing and other installation missions.

The management of installations that have land and water areas should prepare and implement reasonable steps to protect and enhance the natural and cultural resources.

It should be recognized, however, that because the ecological processes are dynamic, a species', as well as its habitat's, composition will change interdependently over time and space. The integrated management actions should take this into consideration.
