scope:

This standard specifies a field test method for evaluating the relative performance of wood treated with preservatives in Use Category 3B exposure. The test method evaluates the performance of treated wood in a field exposure where it is subjected to the wide range of naturally occurring decay fungi, other micro-organisms and insects present in the testing environment. Testing and evaluation of wood and preservative systems intended for above ground exterior applications where a surface coating is used (UC3A) should use AWPA Standard E9. This test method is intended to be a screening test. It may also be used to provide information for standardization of protection treatments.
