Applies to all Navy Medicine personnel working in areas that encounter bloodborne pathogens. All medical and dental treatment facilities must follow this program in the treatment of their beneficiaries.

Purpose.

Reference (a) requires the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery to review and provide technical and administrative guidance on the medical aspects of bloodborne pathogens (BBP). Reference (b) delegates this requirement to the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC). Reference (c) is the technical manual that establishes guidelines to minimize the risk of acquiring BBP disease due to occupational exposure.
