Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants Subcommittee D02.01 on Combustion Characteristics

active, Most Current
Publication Date: 23 April 2001
Status: active
Page Count: 26
scope:

The scope of this research project is to verify the change in RON, MON, Antiknock Index [AKI = (R+M)/2] and cetane number when samples of gasoline and diesel fuel are subjected to sunlight exposure under timed intervals. Additionally, data are presented which link the observed changes in measured values of AKI and cetane number ratings to the formation of peroxides in the fuel. The source of peroxides is most probably through ultraviolet light (UV) stimulated autoxidation.
