The grease covered under specification is high-temperature grease (type HTG) intended for use in the lubrication of ball and roller bearings, primarily for lubricating class H-insulated (silicone) electric motors with heat-stabilized ball bearings. It is also used for boiler sliding feet grease lubrication. Restrictions on composition, toxicity, and hazardous materials covered by this specification cause the grease to be military unique. Current stock of lubricating grease may be used until depleted. Future requisitions for lubricating grease should refer to the current version of this specification. Under no circumstances should this specification be applied to bearings in which the main action involves the sliding of metal on metal, as in journal bearings, spiral gears, gear trains, and similar applications.
