This phrase book contains commonly used names of injuries and diseases as well as words and phrases which are indispensable for mutual understanding between medical and nursing personnel and patients of different nationalities.
As this phrase book is intended for use at the more forward echelons, words and phrases which are too technical, such as those needed by specialists, are not included. It is reasonable to presume that at centres of specialised treatment there will be available interpreters or one of the highly comprehensive medical dictionaries already in existence.
Words and phrases are numbered consecutively, retaining the same number in each language.
Difficulties of pronunciation should be overcome by pointing out any given word or phrase instead of saying it aloud.
Questions are formulated whenever possible in such as way that they can be answered by:
- "yes" or "no"
- pointing to one part of the body, or to the object intended
- pointing out the answering word or phrase in the table.
Blank spaces, such as ........(350-401), in a phrase should be filled in with the applicable word(s). The numbers in brackets indicate where these words may be found.
The loose-leaf system permits the user to remove from the table only the corresponding languages and to hand out to the persons concerned the respective sections.
It will also facilitate the inclusion of amendments and addenda. For the latter, blank numbers are left at the end of every subsection.
