Train Detection Handbook Part S: Dimensions

active, Most Current
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 4 September 2021
Status: active
Page Count: 15
scope:

The contents of this module apply to all lineside train detection systems.

Train detection systems include:

•   track circuits,

•   axle counters,

•   other types of wheel detector, e.g., treadle, electromagnetic proximity device.

The following features are fully described within this module.

•   The positioning of extremities of track sections where they define clearance points, to give adequate clearance with all permitted types of rolling stock.

•   Some forms of jointless train detection boundaries are not suitable for defining critical positions.

•   The rationale which gives rise to constraints associated with maximum and minimum section lengths.

•   The protection at the boundary to non-immune train detection types.

For compatibility restrictions resulting in specific dimension requirements see appropriate product specifications.

Purpose

This module gives the requirements  for train detection limits and dimensions.

It satisfies the mandatory requirements  laid down in Railway Group Standard GKRT0028,RIS-0728-CCS and ERA/ERTMS/033281 for controlling  the risks associated with train compatibility.
