Purpose
The purpose of Def Stan 23-009 is to enable MOD to realise the benefits of a standardised Open Architecture (OA) approach to Vehicle Electronic Architecture (VEA) and Mission System integration, especially regarding the electronic and power infrastructure, data and information management, and the associated crew interfaces. The aim is to improve operational effectiveness across all Defence Lines of Development (DLODs), reduce integration risks, and reduce the through life cost of ownership across the vehicle fleet, by mandating and applying appropriate approach and design constraint standards.
Def Stan 23-009 is used to create appropriate equipment solutions by influencing the requirements and design for Vehicle and Mission System projects. The standard also provides requirements for acquisition processes and Open Systems artefacts to support the achievement of GVA Conformance. The standard informs MOD departments and sets requirements for vehicle system integrators and vehicle and equipment manufacturers.
