Purpose of This Document
In developing Pump Systems Assessment: Body of Knowledge (BOK), HI has collected and harmonized the various factors comprising a pump system assessment. The BOK outlines and describes the specific tasks and knowledge applied by professionals when conducting a pump systems assessment to identify high-value pump systems opportunities and achieve greater energy efficiency and improved pump system reliability.
This document is intended to serve as an overview of the knowledge areas in which the professional should be proficient to appropriately and successfully conduct a pump systems assessment.
It also provides the pump systems assessment professional with a guideline, or starting point, for determining his or her readiness to take the Pump Systems Assessment Professional Certification exam. The pump professional should have an understanding of:
• Hydraulic system behavior and its effect on energy, reliability, and controllability
• Pump performance characteristics and their relationship to overall system operation
• Identification, qualification, and quantification methods for estimating potential cost savings
• Process and equipment data collection and analysis techniques
• Analysis tools to conduct and manage pump system assessments
• Reporting and documenting results to build a business case
In addition to this knowledge base, the candidate should have prior experience conducting pump systems assessment at end-user facilities.
However, this document does not provide detailed and in-depth information regarding each topic. Therefore, it is not intended to be the only reference material used when preparing for the Pump Systems Assessment Professional Certification exam.
