Scope and application
This programme is applicable for the approval of manufacturers of:
- pressed parts for pressure vessels
- seamless gas cylinders (see note)
- accumulator shells (see note)
as referred in the Society's rules and standards. For a description of general requirements, conditions and procedures related to the approval, please refer to DNV-CP-0346 which shall be applied in combination with this programme.
Note:
The governing document for manufacturer approval pressure equipment is DNV-CP-0261. Gas cylinders for fire extinguishing systems shall be designed according to a recognized international standard accepted by the Society, e.g. EN 14208, EN 13322, ISO 9809 or CFR 49 (see DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.4 Ch.7 Sec.5). Accumulators for hydraulic systems shall be designed according to a recognized international standard accepted by the Society, e.g. EN 14359, ISO 11120 or ISO 9809 (see DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.4 Ch.7 Sec.4).
If specified in the standard the forming and heat treatment shall meet the requirements of the standard. Otherwise the specifications of the current class programme are binding.
The approval will be granted to the material group for which representative material grade has been subjected to testing, e.g. CMn group or CrMo group.
Further, in combination with DNV-CP-0261 this AoM is applicable for the approval of manufacturers of seamless gas cylinders and accumulator shells.
This AoM does not cover any welding by the manufacture or final assembly of a component to be pressurized, both of which require additional approvals such as welding workshop approval, ref. DNV-CP-0352 and pressure equipment manufacturer approval, ref. DNV-CP-0261.
Approval is required for each steel type group and forming process as indicated in App.A.
In addition to above, the approval is limited to product type (i.e. pressed parts and/or seamless gas cylinders), the maximum wall thickness and heat treatment/delivery condition of the material grade(s) subjected to approval testing.
The designation "steel type group" is applied for:
- carbon and carbon-manganese (C and C-Mn) steels
- the individual alloy steels
- the individual stainless steels.
Starting material/semi-finish
Note that where critical manufacturing steps are performed by a sub supplier, the sub supplier may need to be separately approved as manufacturer.
