Purpose.

This standard provides a test procedure to evaluate thermal barrier performance from indirect thermal exposure of thermal insulation materials specified in GMW16653 for battery Thermal Runaway Propagation (TRP) mitigation application. Air convection/radiation test methods with variable test conditions are selected depending upon the application area. This standard is only applicable to compare the thermal insulation performance of materials at a bench level. Further testing is required to prove material selection and define pass/fail criteria of thermal performance for the specific application.
