ABSTRACT

Many countries throughout the world rely on U.S. regulations and particularly the use of ASTM E185, Standard Practice for Design of Surveillance Programs for Light-Water Moderated Nuclear Power Reactor Vessels, as required by U.S. regulations. This paper presents a brief overview of U.S. light water reactor vessel surveillance programs and is intended to provide a background on the overall topic of international reactor pressure vessel surveillance program experience. Several other papers to be included in this STP provide more depth and details of U.S. surveillance experience and the notable changes that have occurred over time in E185.
