PURPOSE OF THE MANUAL

This manual is intended for use by designers of instrument procedures based on required navigation performance (RNP) using area navigation (RNAV) avionics systems, where authorization is required (AR).

This manual includes design criteria to aid States in the implementation of RNP AR approach (APCH) procedures in accordance with the Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) Manual (Doc 9613) (hereafter referred to as the PBN Manual), Volume II, Part C, Chapter 6.

This document is a procedure design document that addresses the procedure design criteria and the rationale explaining the application of the criteria. Information concerning the RNP AR concept of operations, implementation philosophy and operational use can be found in the PBN Manual and Annex 6 - Operation of Aircraft.
