Purpose/Material Description.

This standard describes a system to classify metallic materials used in the manufacture of components for GM vehicles that are not specified within an industry standard or other GMW standard as required by GMW14270.

Not applicable.

Applicability.

This standard applies to metallic materials which are not designated by existing GMW or valid industry standards. This standard applies to all metallic materials homogeneous or non-homogeneous. The use of this standard in specifying a material necessitates that certification data be uploaded to the GM Materials Approved Source List (GMMASL).

Remarks.

The material specification is defined by a line callout per Section 8 of this standard. This line callout shall be used on the part drawing, in the part math data file, the component Statement of Requirements (SOR), and Integrated Materials Management (IMM).
