The purpose of this guide is to address the basic fundamental subject knowledge activities and functions for avionics professionals to be titled Aircraft Instrument Systems (AIS) Technician.

This guide is the basis for the Aircraft Instrument Systems certification, an endorsement to the Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification. Candidates must be a certified AET to take the certification exam associated with this guide.

This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
