This Network Rail policy specifies the minimum requirements for the management of documents and records.

This policy applies to all documents and records created, received and managed by Network Rail and the processes, tools and resources employed to manage them.

This policy applies to all individuals within Network Rail, external contractors and service providers who hold or manage records on behalf of the Company. This policy applies to all records in all formats and media.

Purpose 

This Records Management Policy confirms how Network Rail manages records to: 

a) Promote SAFETY by providing reliable records to the right people at the right time; 

b) Exploit the value of our ASSETS by managing our records as a strategic resource; 

c) Fulfil LEGAL AND REGULATORY OBLIGATIONS by retaining records for the right time; 

d) Promote EFFICIENCY by enabling accurate and timely retrieval of records across the business. 

Good corporate records enable an organisation to conduct its business efficiently and effectively and provide accountability for its actions in accordance with its legal and other obligations.
