This standard covers over-all dimensions, tolerances, and marking for wrought and cast carbon- and alloy-steel welding fittings which shall be known as American Standard Steel Butt-Welding Fittings. In this standard "wrought" is used to denote fittings made of pipe, tubing, plate, or forgings. It is recognized that fittings made to special dimensions or of materials other than those specifically covered by this standard are available and may be specified as required by the purchaser. It is urged that where fittings are required from materials other than those specifically mentioned herein, they shall be made to the over-all dimensions, tolerances, and marking of this standard in so far as possible.
