This specification details the requirements for dry film lubricant compounds used to protect sheet metal surfaces from corrosion/staining and to reduce the coefficient of friction providing additional lubricity to aid in cold metal forming operations. These compounds are typically dry or slightly greasy to the touch after application and may be wax mineral oil, or polymer based. The lubricant compounds must be compatible with current production pretreatment and paint system processes. These requirements apply for all substrates and surface treatments listed in GMW14019.

Applicability.

These materials would normally be applied at the mills and sheet metal processors and if needed at the stamping press.

Remarks.

Any deviations from this requirement must be specified on the Metal Parts Specification (MPS) Sheet or the Purchase Order.
