scope:

This 3-A Sanitary Standard applies to the sanitary aspects of vacuum breakers and check valves used on processing equipment and on equipment and lines which hold or convey products. Product enters the check valve at the inlet connection and exits at the check valve outlet connection. Product enters the vacuum breaker at the process connection and stops at the vacuum breaker blocking valve component. Air enters the vacuum breaker at the atmospheric inlet and exits the vacuum breaker at the process connection.

To conform to this 3-A Sanitary Standard, vacuum breakers and check valves shall conform to the following criteria for design, materials of construction, fabrication techniques and installation, as applicable, and the current revisions or editions of all referenced documents cited herein.
