This 3-A Sanitary Standard covers the sanitary aspects of hose assemblies consisting of sanitary couplings permanently attached to one or both ends of multiple-use smooth-bore hoses in a manner such that the resultant hose-to-coupling junction is CIPable. The hose assemblies are intended for the conveying of milk, milk products, or other comestibles. The hose assemblies covered by this standard are of three basic types as defined in C5.1.1, C5.1.2 and C5.1.3, and the components described therein are to be assembled only by their manufacturer, or by an authorized fabricator/distributor. Also see Appendix F1.

This 3-A Sanitary Standard does not cover the following types of hose assemblies: Also see Appendix F2 and F3.

Hose assemblies which utilize band, strap, or worm-gear type clamps or manually tightened fitting devices customarily used to secure removable fittings and which are not designed for CIP cleaning.

Hose assemblies with a convoluted or a corrugated inner surface. Also see Appendix F4.

Hose assemblies with exposed metal overbraid exterior surfaces. Also see E2.1 and Appendix F5.

Hose assemblies with a hose ID of less than 0.75 in. (19.05 mm).
