These standards cover sanitary aspects of non-coil type batch processors used to heat, cool, or process milk, fluid milk products, or other fluid comestibles. Batch processors may be either of the atmospheric or closed type. The latter may be operated at pressures from below to above that of the atmosphere.

In order to conform to these 3-A Sanitary Standards, non-coil type batch processors shall conform to the following design, material, and fabrication criteria.¹
