Type I or type II wire rope and exposed gear grease is intended to provide lubrication and corrosion protection for wire ropes and exposed gears. Type II provides an environmentally preferable formulation for applications where the potential for loss of lubricant to the environment is greater. This grease has unique physical and chemical requirements that are compatible for use across the Navy. Current stock of the grease may be used until depleted; future requisitions for the grease should refer to the current version of this specification.
