ASTM ELEARNING: D1298 Standard Test Method for Density, Relative Density, or API Gravity of Crude Petroleum and Liquid Petroleum Products by Hydrometer Method: SINGLE-USER LICENSE

active, Most Current
Status: active
Page Count: 1
scope:

About the Course

This test method covers the laboratory determination using a glass hydrometer in conjunction with a series of calculations, of the density, relative density, or API gravity of crude petroleum, petroleum products, or mixtures of petroleum and nonpetroleum products normally handled as liquids, and having a Reid vapor pressure of 101.325 kPa (14.696 psi) or less.

The course can be completed in about one hour.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Identify apparatus and related components used for determination of density, relative density, or API gravity of crude petroleum and liquid petroleum products, including hydrometers.

• Recognize sampling requirements for petroleum products, including mixing procedure.

• Recall procedure for determination of density, relative density, or API gravity, including steps for hydrometer scale reading.

• Identify calculation procedure, including steps for implementation of Section 10.4b.

• Recognize reporting requirements for ASTM D1298.
