PURPOSE.

This Instruction promulgates policy regarding the practice of Preventive Medicine and Population Health in the Coast Guard. Preventive Medicine is the medical discipline concerned with the prevention of injury and illness, including the prevention of progression of injuries and illnesses that have already occurred. Population Health is the medical discipline concerned with the collection and analysis of health and health carerelated data with the intent to implement evidence-based interventions to reduce the burden of disease and injury in a population(s). This Instruction's focus is on the Coast Guard, i.e. Preventive Medicine and Population Health efforts toward Coast Guard military and civilian personnel, as well as dependents and retirees.
