scope:
This standard encompasses the design and performance requirements for nitrogen generators.
Nitrogen generators may use membranes or pressure swing adsorption as the nitrogen separation mechanism. Other technologies may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The use of nitrogen storage bottles or plant nitrogen is not in the scope of this standard.
Purpose
This standard states examination criteria for nitrogen generators for use in fire protection systems. Nitrogen generators provide pressurized nitrogen to the sprinkler piping to minimize interior pipe corrosion.
Examination criteria may include, but are not limited to, performance requirements, marking requirements, examination of manufacturing facility(ies), audit of quality assurance procedures, and a follow-up program.
