The rules in this document cover the escape, rescue, abandonment, and survival from naval submarines. This includes internal communications equipment, escape compartments, access hatches, evacuation routes, wayfinding system, incapacitated persons, emergency breathing air, submarine escape, rescue, abandonment and survival (SMERAS) lighting, power supply for SMERAS scenarios, providing breathable atmosphere, SMERAS emergency life support stores, maintain personal hygiene and clean sanitary conditions, external communication equipment, life jackets, submarine escape and surface survival personnel equipment, escape systems, interoperability with submarine rescue systems, safe embarkation into liferafts, survival until recovery from sea, inspection and maintenance, provision of operational information and SMERAS analysis and demonstration.
