This Railtrack Line Code of Practice applies to Westinghouse Signal Machines installed on Railtrack's infrastructure.

This document does not address the general personnel and system safety measures necessary for working on the track with signalling equipment.

Purpose

As a result of Investigations (Technical Investigation Reports 96051 and 98070) into two separate incidents where signals remained stuck in the "off" position due to signal machines being incorrectly repaired on site, this document has been prepared to provide an understanding of the problems associated with carrying out on-site repairs to signal machines.
