Introduction

This Procedure covers the installation of heat shrink tubing for 19/3.25, 19/4.22 and 240 sq mm aluminium conductors (PVC or CSP covered), fitted to Palm type "Single Bolt" lugs on all electrified lines.

The heat shrink tubing protects the aluminium conductors from corrosion at the compression lug/conductor sheathing interface. This protection is to be applied where the conductor termination is located in a corrosive environment, e.g. salt washings from the roadway of an overbridge or level crossings - certain tunnel or cutting locations, etc.

Unused tubing should stored in a cool location and out of direct sunlight, to avoid premature shrinking.
