scope:
This standard applies to proposers of design of or change to the public spatial provision for:
a) new stations
b) existing stations - new or altered assets
c) temporary works
This standard sets out the minimum spatial requirements for both normal operations and for degraded operations during temporary works or Special Events.
It applies to the following:
a) Customer flow
b) Ticket hall and concourses
c) Routeways and vertical circulation
d) Platforms
e) Run-offs
f) Headroom
Note: These are minimum requirements for capacity planning only. In designing or modifying any public space, including horizontal and vertical circulation, there may be architectural and/or customer experience considerations which result in a greater spatial provision. Refer also to S1374 Customer experience in London Underground stations.
Note: For evacuation requirements and widths, refer to S1080 The application of fire safety engineering principles to TfL premises.
Consideration should also be given to the possibility that in some locations, a wider than minimum stair may enhance the customer experience.

Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to define the spatial requirements to allow for the safe and reliable movement of customers within the station environment,as well as supporting operational management and the safety of operators and maintainers.
