This issue of the procedure covers the selection of signals at which the provision of TPWS is required to meet the requirements of the Railway Safety Regulations 1999 ('the Regulations'). Further issues will address the provision of TPWS equipment at Other Locations, namely Speed Restrictions and Buffer Stops. It shall be applied by Railtrack, in conjunction with Line Standard RT/E/P/10138 'TPWS - Transmitter Loop Requirements and Positioning' to determine requirements for TPWS provision leading to the development of a scheme to be submitted for approval under the 'Railways and Other Transport Systems - Approval of Works, Plant and Equipment Regulations 1994'.
This Specification may additionally be updated and re-issued in future should Exemptions to the Regulations be granted.
Purpose
This Specification describes the process for assessing the requirement to provide Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) equipment at signals and Other Locations as defined in the Railway Safety Regulations 1999.
