Inclusions

This Standard establishes requirements for newly manufactured compressed natural gas hose and hose assemblies, intended for use in natural gas dispensing stations.

Hose assemblies may be categorized by the following classes:

a) Class A - hose assembly connecting the dispenser to the fuelling nozzle; and

b) Class D - hose assemblies used on other station equipment.

Note: Refer to CSA/ANSI NGV 3.1 Part 22 for vehicle hoses.

The requirements of this Standard may be superseded by an application-specific standard.

Hose assemblies certified under this Standard may be assembled at either the point of manufacture of the hose, or at hose assembly facilities authorized by the hose manufacturer.

Annex A provides clarification of the applicability of each Clause in this Standard to each class of hose assemblies.

Exclusions

This Standard does not apply to hoses with a working pressure of less than 13.8 kPa (2 psi).

This Standard does not apply to natural gas onboard vehicle hoses covered by CSA NGV 3.1.

Terminology

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.

The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.

All references to pressure throughout this document are to be considered gauge pressures unless otherwise specified.
