Pre-Nitriding: A Means of Significantly Increasing Carburizing Throughput

active, Most Current
Organization: AGMA
Publication Date: 1 September 2016
Status: active
Page Count: 10
scope:

Carburizing parts at higher carburizing temperatures allows users to decrease cycle times and significantly increase production rates. Grain growth, however, needs to be addressed at higher carburizing temperatures. Pre-nitriding is a technology that addresses grain growth and creates a finer grain structure in the carburized case at higher temperatures. Real-life case studies show how carburizing productivity has doubled, and sometimes tripled, using pre-nitriding. The information presented will give actual data and explain the theory and practice for significantly increasing carburizing productivity.
