scope:
Worm gear drives in machinery comprise of a steel worm running on a bronze gear wheel. Several grades of non-ferrous alloys are available for worm gear application. A review of the microstructure and properties of tin bronze, manganese bronze, and aluminum bronze material that make them suitable for specific worm gear application is presented. Mechanical tests and microstructural studies are conducted, comparing the centrifugally cast and static-cast gear bronze (tin bronze) alloy, and the results are presented.
