IEEE - P379.1/D4

Draft Guide for Application of the Single-Failure Criterion to Nuclear Power Generating Station Safety Systems

pending, Most Current
Organization: IEEE
Publication Date: 1 May 2023
Status: pending
Page Count: 25
scope:

This guide covers the application of the single-failure criterion to the electrical power, instrumentation, and control portions of nuclear power generating station safety systems.

Purpose

This guide interprets and provides guidance for applying the single-failure criterion, discusses failures, and presents an acceptable method of single-failure analysis. IEEE Std 603 requires application of the single-failure criterion to safety systems in their performance of safety functions.

In practice, the single-failure analysis is a tool that should be applied during the design, acceptance review, and modification processes.
