scope:

Purpose.

This instruction provides policy guidance and assigns responsibilities for providing and implementing meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) capabilities in support of Combatant Commanders' (CCDRs') plans, training, and exercises. It provides direction, advice, assessments, and recommendations on METOC capability needs, non-material and material development, and functional management to support METOC requirements. In addition, this instruction provides the policy to manage and establish governance in support of outlined responsibilities. Lastly, this instruction establishes responsibilities for the Joint Staff (JS), Services, CCDRs, National Guard Bureau (NGB), and other activities regarding METOC capabilities to support and inform execution of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) responsibilities assigned in policy and statute.
