scope:
This standard applies to TfL, their suppliers and/or contractors and third parties.
This standard applies to the vast majority of electrical, electronic and radio equipment for installation within the railway network of TfL.
It affects TfL in the following ways:
a) New or modified equipment;
b) Equipment manufactured in-house;
c) Maintenance of equipment;
Safety implications are discussed in section 5.2.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to describe the basic framework to ensure that the electromagnetic aspects of equipment (i.e. both apparatus and a fixed installation) are adequately addressed in company specifications and procurement processes for installation within Transport for London's railway network. Such arrangements are necessary to comply with both legal and internal approval requirements in respect of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) and radio equipment compliance. Further technical details are covered in the references cited in section 9, especially, the guidance on EMC G222.
The business objective of this standard is to ensure that TfL meets the essential requirements of the UK Regulations on EMC, EMF, radio equipment, and the applicable UK designated railway and product standards.
