This specification defines the minimum performance requirements of thermal barrier materials inside high voltage battery packs. The goal of these materials is to limit the effects of a thermal propagation event to the battery structure thus keeping passengers safe. A wide array of technologies may be used in this effort including but not limited to thermal blankets, non-expanding coatings and mica sheets. Each technology has various benefits and considerations to be taken during the design process.
