The standard provides the methodology by vendors and third party independent laboratories in the formation of a telecommunications energy efficiency ratio. The requirements and definitions in this document are for Wireline Access equipment that provides standards-based broadband service and is deployed in the telecommunications industry. This supplemental standard represents one part of the larger ATIS suite of standards concerning Telecommunications Energy Efficiency (ATIS-0600015). This supplemental standard (ATIS-0600015.07) specifically addresses access equipment and is to be used in conjunction with ATIS-0600015.

The current document addresses Broadband equipment that includes Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) and Distribution Point Units (DPUs) with ADSL, VDSL, HDSL, SHDSL or g.fast technology. The document also covers vectoring and bonding of these technologies.

Other categories of Access Equipment may be addressed in other supplemental standards. This may include Optical Access, Edge equipment, Network Termination Equipment (NTE), Network Termination Unit (NTU), and CPE. These devices are outside the scope of this document.
